Junior School Music Showcase: Sounds of the Solar System

The 2026 Junior School Music Showcase took audiences on an out-of-this-world adventure, with this year’s theme celebrating “Sounds from the Solar System”.

The showcase began with a Junior School Choir performance of “When You Wish Upon a Star”. The Year 3–6 Performing Arts Choir followed with “Starlight, Starbright”.

Each Curriculum Music class explored the theme in their own unique way:

• · Kindergarten blasted off with “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon”. They sang and moved whilst wearing hand-made rocket costumes
• · Year 1 & 2 took inspiration from our solar system with “The Planets,” combining singing and moving whilst incredible hand-made planet hats
• · Year 3 & 4 created a calm and shimmering atmosphere with “Silver Moon,” showcasing their growing musical skills through composition, speech rhyme, singing and playing recorder. They also displayed a self-created moon-painting.
• · Year 5 kept the celestial theme alive with “Walking on the Moon,” combining singing, moving, ukulele and xylophone playing, whilst wearing costumes -aliens or astronauts.
• · Year 6 transported the audience even further into the universe with “Interstellar,” playing on a range of tuned percussion instruments.

Kindergarten to Year 2 Performing Arts Choir had fun singing “Aliens,” bringing character and charm to the stage.

Our talented instrumental ensembles added depth and excitement to the showcase. The Woodwind and Brass ensemble thrilled the audience with the iconic “Star Wars Theme,” while the Guitar ensemble performed the uplifting “A Sky Full of Stars.” The Strings ensemble impressed with “Cosmic Socks,” before all performers joined together as a Combined Ensemble for a powerful rendition of “Jupiter,” filling the hall with rich and resonant sound.

The Junior School Rock Band brought a burst of energy with “On Top of the World,” before the entire Junior School reunited for the grand finale, “Planet Rock.”

The 2026 Junior School Music Showcase was truly a stellar celebration of creativity, collaboration, and musical talent. It left the audience starstruck and reminded us all that, when we reach for the stars, anything is possible.
