HICES Music Camp at The Tops Conference Centre

Congratulations to our students who proudly represented the College at the 2026 HICES Music Festival, a prestigious program that brings together hundreds of young musicians from HICES schools across New South Wales. Students successfully auditioned and were selected to participate in this wonderful musical experience, held from 16 to 19 August at The Tops Conference Centre, Stanwell Tops. The festival combines an intensive music camp with showcase performances, allowing students to work alongside experienced conductors and talented peers from a wide range of schools.

Representing the College were Waverley, Laila, Abigail and Milana (Year 5), Francesco and Lavuni (Year 7), and Madison (Year 8). Throughout the four-day camp, students were immersed in rehearsals, workshops and ensemble activities while forming new friendships with like-minded young musicians who share a passion for music. Alongside the many musical opportunities, students also enjoyed a variety of fun camp activities.

Bradley (Year 10) was accepted into the HICES Music Festival Jazz Academy, a selective program for secondary students with a particular interest and aptitude in jazz performance. Bradley participated in specialised jazz workshops and Big Band rehearsals throughout the camp, while the Years 5 to 8 students took part in ensemble rehearsals and the Massed Choir program.

The experience culminated in spectacular performances on 19 August, with the Jazz Academy presenting a concert at the Darling Quarter Theatre before all participating ensembles combined for the evening Festival Concert at Sydney Town Hall. Performing in one of Sydney’s most iconic venues was a memorable and rewarding conclusion to an inspiring week of music-making, collaboration and personal growth.
