Music memories

What a term we’ve had in the Music stream! Early in the term, we headed to Vizio Cafè e Cuccina in the city for two nights to see the students perform in their ‘live gig experience’. They were two of the best-attended nights we’ve had there, and the level of entertainment matched. The students once again provided the crowd with some great tunes and kept the place rocking. We are so grateful to the staff at Vizio for having us, feeding us, and providing such a fantastic space for the students to shine.

We quickly moved on to preparations for the launch of our two Composition Albums. A fantastic night of Composition and a Couch was enjoyed by all who attended, and we got an insight from the students as to what inspired or influenced the writing of their compositions. We were then able to hear excerpts from their songs with an accompanying video clip. Enormous thanks go to Paul Aiden (Producer and Engineer) and Katia Fuscaldo-Zoffoli for their enormous effort in helping create two amazing albums and a great launch night. You can stream the albums here.

We were very lucky to have Blair Joscelyne as a special guest for Industry Day this term. Blair is a former teacher at the College and is currently working as a composer. He was chuffed to return to facilitate a song-writing workshop for the Junior and Senior students. His dynamic teaching style had the students captivated. They were intent on learning the secrets of the trade and how to put them into practice.

Our Junior and Senior Jazz ensembles entertained the staff and students with a Jazz Soirée during a Monday lunch and it was so well received. It was a delightful way to have lunch while being entertained by some slick and fabulous jazz tunes. We hope to fill our lunch breaks with more of these opportunities next year.

Our final showcase, The Power of Positivity, was a fitting way to round out a great year in Music. We were treated to four rock bands and two jazz bands featuring students from Years 7 – 12.

Big shout out to the Music Stream staff – Katia Fuscaldo-Zoffoli, Libby Cooper, Marie Le Brun, Paul Aiden, and the peripatetic staff – Margi De Ferranti, Rosy Timms, Joe Littlefield, Steve Lamante, Rob Woodward, David Catteral, Sam Blackburn, and Christine Lim for their ongoing professional work with our students.

Special thanks to Margi De Ferranti who is leaving the College after many, many years of dedication to the singing students and her expertise and guidance to so many. We wish you well Margi, for all your future endeavours and thank you so much for everything you have done for the students at the College.

Finally, many thanks to our parents and carers for their enormous support to us all.
