Principal’s Spotlight | December 2022

As the 2022 academic year has ended, I take this opportunity to thank our parents and carers for giving your children the opportunity to attend The McDonald College. It never ceases to amaze me the talent, initiative, and commitment that our students show. This was obvious at last week’s Junior Speech Day and the Secondary Speech Night where the following recognition was given:

  • College Captain: Lara Ergun
  • College Vice-Captain: Thomas Garrett
  • Junior School Captain: Scarlett Honan
  • Junior School Vice-Captain: Caleb Heng
  • Dux of Stage 3: Joel Teng
  • Dux of Stage 4: Angus McCormack
  • Dux of Stage 5: Mollie Rytmeister
  • Senior Ann McDonald Scholar: Lily Kennedy-Head
  • Junior Ann McDonald Scholar: Zahlee Moore

I congratulate all the students who were rewarded and recognise that many students may have just missed this recognition by only several marks. For those students who tried their hardest: bravo!

To have a year of almost normal activities has been a relief and a pleasure and the students have risen to the occasion. Our High Performance Season set the tone for this year. The students hit the stage and the court with passion and commitment and their smiles told a story of joy.

We finish this year with:

  • Abbey in Paris (won an international operatic competition)
  • Ethan in Florida (representing Australia in tennis)
  • Evan featuring in a Stan Christmas movie
  • Henry heading to Switzerland (chosen to compete in the Prix de Lausanne international ballet competition)
  • Myron as U14 National Tennis Champion
  • Ryan on the Gold Coast (filming the second series of a TV show)
  • College named the Most Outstanding School by Tennis NSW

Please excuse all those amazing achievements that are not mentioned here.

Looking forward to 2023, please mark in your diary the Principal’s Gala Dinner to be held at Doltone House on 27 May.

I take this opportunity to wish our whole community a safe and happy holiday and season greetings to all. Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday 30 January.
