Understanding Afghanistan with alumnus, Hollie McKay

Last Friday, we were fortunate to have Hollie McKay join us for an intriguing webinar live from Kabul, Afghanistan.

Hollie was a 2003 Graduate and the College Dux and is now a war crimes investigator and foreign correspondent. She is one of the few female journalists reporting on the ground from Kabul.

The webinar, which was organised by Head of HSIE, Mr Fallon, saw HSC students Rosie Whittaker, Jenna Boschen and Jeremy Salmon interview Hollie, as she shared her insights into humanitarian crimes and life under the Taliban regime.

For over 14 years Hollie reported for Fox News Digital on warfare, terrorism, and crimes against humanity. Her columns continue to be featured in publications including ABC News, the Wall Street Journal and Spectator Magazine.

In 2021 she founded international geopolitical risk and social responsibility firm McKay Global. Her latest book, Only Cry for the Living: Memos from Inside the ISIS Battlefield has received international acclaim for its unprecedented insight into one of the most brutal terrorist organisations of today’s world.

The webinar drew an audience of over 230 people and we welcomed guests from the broader community and all over Australia. We thank Hollie for her precious time and trust those of you who joined us found it as fascinating as we did.
