A remarkable term for our Tennis players

This first term of 2024 has been exceptionally triumphant for the young athletes of McDonald College, who have showcased their talent and dedication across various tennis tournaments.

On Monday, 26th February, talented Year 5 and 6 students represented McDonald College at the HICES association in the 2024 CIS Primary Boys and Girls Tennis Selection Championships at The King’s School. The event was a display of skill and sportsmanship, with all participants earning praise for their efforts. Special accolades went to Peter Domingo, who remained undefeated throughout the day, earning him a spot on the CIS team.

The excitement continued in Canberra, where McDonald College’s Academy stars participated in a weekend filled with intense matches and remarkable victories. Ayumi Ito emerged as a standout performer, sweeping through the 12&U girls singles and doubles categories. Tia McIntosh displayed dominance in the 14&U girls singles and also claimed the 16&U doubles title alongside Ami Dalla Pozza. In the boys’ division, Liam Jocson won the 14&U singles and doubled the success with Brandon Hass in the doubles. Jason Chu took home the 16&U boys singles and doubles titles, partnering with Oliver Hak.

The Easter weekend brought more success at the Nepean Tournament, where the McDonald College players left a significant mark. Tia McIntosh continued her winning streak in the 14&U 250. Coach Andrea Melisi demonstrated his prowess by winning both the singles and doubles in the Roche series. Notable performances also came from Sebastian Lavorato, reaching the 14&U 250 finals, Oliver Hak in the Open final, and Chase Zhao, who excelled in the doubles.

Now all eyes are on the upcoming Australian Clay Court Championships where McDonald College players are ready to shine, with several qualifying for this prestigious event. Ayumi Ito (12&U girls), Sebastian Lavorato, and Edmund Libert (12&U boys), Suri Suchovsky and Ami Dalla Pozza (14&U girls), and Ethan Domingo (14&U boys) will represent the college with pride.

This term has indeed been remarkable for McDonald College’s tennis program, reflecting the high level of training, commitment, and skill among its players. Congratulations to all the athletes for their outstanding achievements and for carrying the college’s banner high in the competitive tennis arena.
