Evan’s winning numbers

Year 9 student Evan Luc-Tran has beat a staggering 308,138 students from 130 countries to place first in Australia (for the second year in a row) and 4th in the World in the Mathletics 2022 World Maths Day competition.

This is off the back of winning the inaugural Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee last year, where he was invited to Canberra to meet Scott Morrison.

Evan has been at the College since 2018 and is currently in Year 9. Ms Meni Contos, Head of Mathematics said, “Evan has been accelerated to Year 11 Extension 1 Maths and while this means he misses some of his Year 9 classes, he is so self-directed and motivated, that he catches up on all his work.”

Like all students at the College, Evan balances his academic studies with his other passion. He has aspirations to one day become an actor. “I really enjoy being in front of the camera but also seeing how things work behind the scenes. I know that the industry is hard so if I don’t make it, it’s good to know I’ve got other options.”

“I love coming here. It’s a bit hard to balance everything at times but everyone at the school is very supportive. They regularly check in to make sure I am OK and coping with the extra work.”
