We are an independent, non-denominational, co-educational K – 12 school.
We offer performing arts & performance sports streams with an equal focus on academic rigour.

Dance stream | Term 1 Wrap

The Dance stream offers many dance genres including Contemporary, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Ballet and Jazz Dance. Each genre has its own individual technique and style. As usual, the students kicked off the term with renewed energy, impressing us all with their focus and dedication.

Rehearsals began for the Senior Jazz eisteddfod group and we commenced some choreography for the High Performance season in September.

On 17 March, we had our first Industry Day for 2022. Each of the Performing Arts departments brings in a leading industry specialist to share their knowledge and journey with the College students. The Dance stream’s tutor this term was Kaylee Kingi.

Kaylee started dancing at Dance Encore Performing Arts Studio under the guidance of Lesley Scott and trained in a variety of styles including Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Lyrical and Acrobatics. After completing her ADA Jazz and Ballet exams, Kaylee pursued further training overseas. In 2017, Kaylee joined the world-renowned Hip-Hop dance company “The Royal Family”. Training under Parris Goebel, Kaylee competed in the HHI Internationals. The dance students had a fantastic time with Kaylee in the studio and we thank her for her passion and for giving the students a fabulous and challenging day!

For the diary: the Dance stream Student Choreographic Evening is on 21 June in the Conference Centre at 7pm. This is an evening for the students to try out their own choreography, it is not a competition but rather an opportunity for them to grow and experiment with movement. We’re looking forward to seeing a budding Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, Crystal Pite, Mia Michaels or Travis Wall emerge from this evening.
