We are an independent, non-denominational, co-educational K – 12 school.
We offer performing arts & performance sports streams with an equal focus on academic rigour.

Principal’s Welcome

I’m very happy to be re-instating our end-of-term eNewsletter, Spectrum now that things have (more or less) returned to normal. We had such a great start to 2021, I still thought we should send a belated Term 1 edition. It was indeed a busy one with much to celebrate:

  • Senior Swimming Carnival
  • Prefects’ Concert
  • Parent Information sessions
  • Junior Music Showcase
  • Senior Music Showcase
  • Senior Acting – As Hamlet Likes It
  • Auditions for Eisteddfod Groups
  • Year 7 – 9 Camp
  • New Parent’s Cocktail Party
  • Industry Day
  • Easter Hat Parade

All this in addition to the academic learning from Kindergarten to Year 12.

The start of the year has given way to many discussions around issues of consent and sexual assault. I applaud Australian of the Year Grace Tame for her work raising awareness. The message that sexual activity without consent is sexual assault must be taught explicitly to our students. The College and parents must be unified in this message. These conversations need to begin at home and be ratified at school. The more knowledge our students have, the more empowered they are to say ‘no’. The eSafety Commissioner website has some great tips on how to have the difficult conversations.

On 19 March, our annual Prefects’ Concert was a festive event, which was not going to be dampened by inclement weather.

We welcome back Ms Gooley to teach Science in Terms 2 and 3 ahead of the arrival of our new Head of Science, Mrs Mathis, in Term 4.

During the holidays, we hosted our acclaimed Elite Masterclass Series. How fortunate our students are to learn from such esteemed masters such as David McAllister and Rani Luther.

We are proud of Mrs Dunbar (Head of Musical Theatre) who is completing her season in a musical Half Time. Always overflowing with passion for performance, she is an amazing example to the students (and staff) showing performance can be a lifetime pursuit.

If you have been watching the ABC’s remarkable drama series Wakefield, look out for the talents of The McDonald College graduate Felicity Ward.

Finally, I hope to see all our parents at the bi-annual Principal’s Gala Dinner on 29 May.

Dates for the Diary can be found here.
