Music Competitions & Showcase Preparations

Term 1 has been a busy and eventful one for Music Stream. We welcomed 14 new students across Years 7–12 and hit the ground running, assigning students to set ensembles for The First Quarter showcase on March 24. Junior Stream students have been working with me on their repertoire this term, while Senior Stream have been working with both myself and Mr Damien Macchi. The showcase will also feature our jazz ensembles, who have been rehearsing with Ms Marie LeBrun.

Our Music Stream program also provides students with solo opportunities through weekly concert practice, where they receive feedback from staff and peers while performing a diverse range of repertoire. Mr Ben Kiehne has been a fantastic addition to concert practice, helping students refine their performance skills and etiquette.

Primary PA has kicked off strongly with choir and instrumental classes. We welcomed new instrumental staff this year: Mr Daniel Lopez (Strings), Mr Iain Howick (Brass), and Mr Murray James (Guitar). I’d also like to thank Ms Jacqui Sherer for the time and dedication she continues to invest in our primary program.

In Weeks 4 and 5, we held the Vocal and Instrumental Competitions for Primary, Junior, and Senior students. The talent on display was outstanding, and adjudicators were particularly impressed with the high standard across all categories. Congratulations to our prize winners, and well done to all who participated. Thank you also to Ms Lucy Bermingham for her accompaniment and guidance, and to Mr Peter Eirth for his production support.

Additional performance opportunities this term included Grandparents Day—featuring our Primary Choir and Primary competition winners—and the annual Prefect Concert, where students from across the school had the chance to perform.

Alongside all of this, we are fortunate to have a talented team of private teachers who provide vocal and instrumental lessons across all streams.
