Good times at our Boarding House

Term 2 has the Boarding House almost at capacity, with forty full-time and casual boarders.

Our boarders had a great time celebrating National Boarding Week. We had our first-ever Open Boarding House for the teachers and staff. The boarders baked afternoon tea, and at 4pm, doors were open for a tour of the facilities and a little glance at how the boarders live. Seeing how excited the boarders were to show off their home away from home was delightful.

Another part of National Boarding Week was doing something for the community. One of the supervisors, Dominique, devised a plan to participate in a national push-up challenge to raise awareness and funds for better mental health. The challenge goes for the whole month of June, and we are pleased to report that our boarders are on target.

We’ve had success across all streams in the house. Our Tennis boarders have travelled interstate and even internationally to compete with outstanding results, our music stream has had entertaining showcases, and many boarders were in the school musical Matilda. As always, it is so wonderful seeing the support the boarders show each other in their different streams.

Each year, at least once or twice, our boarders, along with the boarding supervisor, like to go on an excursion to see a musical and this term, we were lucky enough to go and see Mamma Mia, the musical, at The Lyric Theatre, featuring alumna Emily Cascarino. The outing was a lot of fun.

We said farewell to our supervisor Sarah, who headed off to London. Sarah was a student at the College in the Musical Theatre Stream and became a supervisor after graduating. The students miss Sarah already, but we are excited to have a new supervisor, Bel, start with us in Term 3.  Last weekend, the boarders had their first bonfire of the year, complete with a sausage sizzle, smores made from sweet biscuits, chocolate and toasted marshmallows — certainly one of the highlights of our winter months for Boarding House. Everyone agrees there is something very special about gathering around a fire and talking.
