Boarding house family rises up

It’s been a very busy term in the boarding house.

COVID-19 came to visit and thankfully our thorough planning proved effective. Boarders were placed in separate rooms and we were able to isolate those who were positive and continue on with school.

During the term, our Head of Boarding, Ms Rebecca Rogers said she saw a whole different side of our boarding family. Boarders went out of their way to ensure the well-being of those who had tested positive. They took it upon themselves to check in with their friends daily – sitting on opposite sides of the doors for a chat, and leaving treats for those who were isolating. It made us realise how much each person matters.

Ms Rogers’ nursing career came in handy as she created a bespoke document to monitor students’ symptoms and mood and manage medicine administration. Good record keeping facilitated diligent reporting back to our parents but moreover, it meant we were able to provide really holistic care – looking after our charges physically, mentally and emotionally.

The students bounced back as they always do and took to their studies and performance streams with renewed vigour.

One of the many activities that the boarding house family love to do together is to see musicals. 35 boarders and days students got to enjoy Hamilton – The Musical at the Lyric Theatre before it closed in Sydney. They also had the opportunity to meet and hear from Kim Taylor, graduate of the College, and long-standing cast member. It was the perfect reward for what had been a tricky start to the term.
