Music Stream | Term 1 Wrap

‘Live Gig’ experience

The Music Stream has had a busy start to the year! As restrictions eased and life started to resemble something like we used to know, The McDonald College Music Stream students joined forces with the amazing team at VIZIO Café de Cucina in Woolloomooloo and performed two live music gigs on two consecutive Friday evenings in March.

This gave both the senior and junior students the opportunity to experience a ‘real-life gig’ and entertain both the parents and the public with their amazing music. The students could have easily been mistaken for professional musicians and presented themselves and the College in the very best light. We are hoping to continue this partnership each term, to provide the student’s opportunity to learn and perform many repertoires, while also giving staff, parents and friends a fantastic evening out!

Industry day

We were extremely fortunate to welcome Dauno Martinez as our Industry Day guest. Dauno is a sought after musician who specialises in the bass guitar but can play just about every instrument there is!

We enjoyed hearing about Dauno’s life, born in Chile and moving to Australia at a young age and becoming a professional musician from age 11. The students played for Dauno and he was suitably impressed.

We then heard from the master himself and the students were extremely impressed and inspired by what they heard and saw. We are lucky to be welcoming Dauno to our teaching staff in the Music Stream.

Two Music Stream Showcases

We ended the term with two Music Stream Showcases. Two consecutive nights 30 – 31 March, showcasing Senior and Junior classes with the theme for both nights being ‘the student’s choice’!

Two great nights of entertainment were provided by some amazingly talented young people. The audiences were treated to programs that traversed almost every genre – from pop to jazz, rock to folk, and classical to funk. The nights were a display of the varied vocal and instrumental talents of our Music Stream students. You can read more about these nights here.
