We are an independent, non-denominational, co-educational K – 12 school.
We offer performing arts & performance sports streams with an equal focus on academic rigour.
Dance – for everyone
The McDonald College is a K – 12 school where students can receive world-class dance training while receiving a rigorous academic education. Besides offering Dance as an HSC subject, we also offer three specialised streams of Dance: Classical Ballet, Commercial Dance and a Senior Contemporary Dance (Years 10 – 12) program in partnership with Sydney Dance Company. Students train up to 10 hours a week, which is integrated into a normal school day.
We also have an After Hours program, which is open to everyone. Classes are suitable for students of all levels, ages 3 – 18 years. Classes are held Monday – Friday after school and on Saturdays during the school term.
Dance at The McDonald College
All Dance streams are integrated into the course of a normal school day
- Junior School students participate in 4.5 hours of training per week
- Secondary School students receive 10 hours of training per week.
Additionally,
- students in Years 9 – 10 can choose to take an alternate Dance or other Performing Arts Elective (rather than an Academic Elective), adding time to their weekly training schedule
- HSC Dance is also offered as a 2 Unit subject
- Senior Contemporary Dance students spend one day a week working with Sydney Dance Company’s pre-professional students at their studios in Walsh Bay.
We work with all Dance students to build their knowledge, help them discover their unique brand of artistry, and refine their technical skills while they work towards their HSC.
Our graduates are highly sought after by world-renowned finishing schools and tertiary education institutes. Our dance alumni can be seen on stage in prestigious ballet and dance companies around the world.
Our thorough training programs cover safe dance practices, musicality, creativity, well-being (both physical and psychological), nutrition, strength and conditioning, and opportunities beyond school, including audition techniques.
We also offer a wide range of pre-professional performance opportunities to our students to help prepare them for careers in dance.
We are the only school in Sydney with nine large air-conditioned dance studios with sprung floors.
