Since 2013, The McDonald College partnership with Voyager Tennis Academy has delivered a highly successful program that allows elite tennis players the opportunity to further develop their tennis careers whilst completing their academic studies. This program works with tennis students as elite performers with the same requirements as elite performing artists. The program allows for daily training in their area of performance whilst completing their secondary education at the highest levels.

2018 Australian Schools Championships National Winner

The McDonald College sets aside two hours per day for performance training in addition to normal academic studies. When the performing arts students go to their classes our Elite Tennis students train at Sydney Olympic Park facilities in Homebush, which is a short 5-minute drive from the College.

Established in 2011, the vision of Voyager Tennis Academy is to help restore Australian tennis as a top participation sport with a strong level of play and to help youngsters use tennis as a vehicle to further their education via college scholarships. Lead coaches include, Luke Bourgeois, Ryan Henry, Adam Feeney, Jess Engels, Andrew Thomas (former McDonald College student), Pete Thorne, Sam Humphrey and Rafael Barrozzi.

Currently, Voyager Tennis runs one of the largest player development programs in Australia and works with over 100 nationally ranked players across Sydney. It also has more than 40 program graduates who are currently in the United States on college tennis scholarships and many more following this pathway in the next couple of years.

Voyager delivers Sydney’s first comprehensive tennis pathway taking students from recreational to elite players.

It is able to do this through a combination of its coaching expertise, learning techniques and state of the art facilities.  Moreover, in order to raise the game of aspiring young players, at its Olympic Park facility it regularly arranges for them to compete against and alongside some of the best young players from overseas thus dramatically fast-tracking their development.
