Senior Contemporary Dance news

Our Senior Contemporary Dance program in partnership with Sydney Dance Company is not available anywhere else in the country. This year, added to the program, is a weekly session with their Pre-Professional students at the Sydney Dance Company studios. The students undertaking our SDC program have relished this opportunity and we have seen a clear impact on their learning experience as a result.

They have also had the opportunity to watch Sydney Dance Company in rehearsals and were invited to a performance of Rafael Bonachela’s inspiring new work ab [Intra] at the Roslyn Packer Theatre. (Photo above by Pedro Greig.)

For the Senior Showcase held at the end of Term 3, students worked with choreographers Todd Sutherland and Lexy Panetta on original pieces, along with learning a section of ab [Intra] with Charmene Yap. It was a challenge for our young dancers to learn current repertoire of Sydney Dance Company, and they rose to the occasion.

You may have also seen the suite of ABC Australia’s 90th Anniversary television commercials. Our Senior Contemporary Dance program students were part of the troupe of 90 dancers. At the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct on Gadigal land, they tell the story of the ABC’s evolution through dance and movement and creating the ABC logo in a stunning physical form. You can watch the TVC below. We were told, “The McDonald College students were so professional and patient on set on what was a very early start on a very rainy day!”
