Our 12th International Summer School places creativity at the heart of programming by featuring a series of engaging junior and senior workshops introducing aspiring students and pre-professionals to the international arts community. We believe in cultivating artistic expression and our non-competitive and supportive philosophy allows students to thrive within our inclusive environment. Hosted at The McDonald College #ISS2018 promises to be our most exciting program yet.

Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Repertoire, Yoga and Creative Dance classes
Beyond exciting daily dance classes in various styles, this course encourages students to explore their own creativity through a series of music, acting, art and creative dance classes, under the watchful guidance of our esteemed guest faculty. junior.dance is perfect for students looking to explore their artistic skills through a series of dance and creative workshops.

Classical Ballet, Contemporary, 19th / 21st Century Repertoire, Movement & Improvisation, Pas de Deux, Variations, Boys Classes, Yoga, Body Conditioning 
Our senior.dance courses are designed to foster the artistic and creative development of students aged 11-18. Through a range of age-appropriate classical, contemporary, repertoire, movement and body conditioning classes, participants will explore dance from the international perspective of our curated guest faculty.

Choreography
Our new create.dance workshops are designed to jumpstart the creative curiosity of participants by introducing them to the art of choreography. This course will offer participants the opportunity to be mentored by ISS18 choreographer in residence Cathy Marston and members of our guest faculty as they explore the process of imbuing movement with meaning. Whether you are an HSC student looking to practice your composition skills or you are simply interested in the expressive quality of movement, this course promises to inspire!

Classical Ballet, 21st Century Repertoire
This new two-week youth.ballet course will offer pre-professional students direct access into the international arts community. Participants will be introduced to the work of acclaimed international choreographers William Forsythe and Alexander Ekman as well as have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive new creation by ISS18 ‘choreographer in residence’ Cathy Marston. This course aims to equip students with a greater understanding of the artistic potential of choreography and encourages the skills required of a professional dancer in actively contributing to a choreographer’s creative process.

American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School

In 2018, our masterclass.audition series returns as an annual component of the International Summer School. Participants will have the exclusive opportunity to audition for New York’s prestigious ABT JKO School, currently under the artistic leadership of ISS alumni faculty member Cynthia Harvey. Acclaimed dancer and teacher Robert LaFosse will provide students with an introduction to the demands of the school while auditioning for potential applicants. This program also includes an introductory series for parents. More on the ABT JKO School can be found below.

ACCOMMODATION

Students and families travelling from outside of Sydney for ISS will need to make their own arrangements as this is not offered on-site. We have a list of suggestions in our Accommodation Information Sheet.

 

Terms & Conditions

We offer a 50% refund (upon presentation of a medical certificate) to students who have sustained an injury or are sick. Full details can be found in our FAQ information sheet (link above).

The American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School

The ABT JKO School aims to provide the highest quality ballet training, consistent with the varied stylistic requirements of American Ballet Theatre, and to provide dancers with a rich knowledge of classical technique and the ability to adapt to all styles of dance. The ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School bases its training on the ABT National Training Curriculum, which utilises scientific kinetic principles with elements from the classic French, Italian and Russian schools.
 
Classes include classical ballet technique, pointe, partnering, men’s class, character, modern technique, variations and Pilates. In addition, there are numerous performance opportunities for students including performing with American Ballet Theatre at the MET in New York. Students also take part in the ABT JKO School Wellness Lecture Series, designed to educate students and their parents on subjects facing aspiring professional dancers. ABT now has limited dorm spaces for students aged 15 to 18 at The Manhattan School of Music and is able to assist in obtaining student visas.
