Remembering Alan Brown
It is with a heavy heart that I advise our community of the passing of our College Chairman, Alan Brown. Alan passed away suddenly on Monday 4 February 2019. He will be sorely missed by his family, the Directors of the College, other College members that his big heart and generosity touched, and his extended family at Fredon Industries and the electrical industry that he so keenly embraced for over 40 years.
It is with a heavy heart that I advise our community of the passing of our College Chairman, Alan Brown. Alan passed away suddenly on Monday 4 February 2019. He will be sorely missed by his family, the Directors of the College, other College members that his big heart and generosity touched, and his extended family at Fredon Industries and the electrical industry that he so keenly embraced for over 40 years.
Alan spent the last 41 years of his life as a passionate, involved leader of Fredon Industries. He was a natural leader of people and from humble beginnings he rose to a position of prominence not only at Fredon but also in the community. Alan joined The McDonald College Council in 2012 after his daughter, Emma Terry, left the College to take up a position at the Joffrey Ballet School in Chicago to continue her ballet training.
Prior to joining the College Council, Alan and his wife Donna were the driving force behind Premier State Ballet fundraising activities for some years. The College is indebted to Alan for his many hours of governance, advice, his good humour and his philanthropy toward the College including the installation of external lighting in the car park amongst his many other acts of generosity.
For many years, Alan was on the Board of the Penrith Aquatic and Leisure Centre and he was intimately involved with NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) striving to improve the electrical contracting industry. In line with everything else he did, Alan’s energetic involvement led him to become the National President of NECA in 2016. Alan Brown has left this world in a better place than he found it and we are all better for having worked with him and known him.
The McDonald College extends our deepest sympathies to Donna, Alan’s wife, and to his family of whom one of his granddaughters, Annalise, attends our after-hours classes.
