Junior School at the Opera House

Our Years 3 to 6 students spent yesterday morning at the Sydney Opera House for a Sydney Symphony Orchestra performance.

The concert opened with a vibrant Rhythmic Acknowledgement of Country by Adam Manning, before the orchestra led students through Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. Written in 1886, it is one of the most loved works in the orchestral repertoire, with each movement conjuring a different creature, from the lumbering elephant to the famously graceful swan. The program also featured Animalia by Australian composer Alex Turley, bringing native animals into the fold.

For students who spend their days immersed in music, dance and drama, hearing a full symphony orchestra in that building is a different kind of lesson altogether.
