Book Week 2026: A Symphony of Stories
Today our Junior School came together in a wonderful celebration of reading, imagination and creativity as we marked Book Week 2026 with our annual Book Week Parade. Students, staff and families embraced this year’s theme, “Book an Adventure: A Symphony of Stories,” bringing to life a remarkable collection of characters, authors and stories from across the literary world.
A symphony is created when many different instruments play together, each contributing its own unique sound. In much the same way, stories bring together ideas, characters, emotions and adventures to create a rich tapestry of experiences. Every book adds its own special note to the symphony of stories that fills our classrooms, library and homes.
One of the highlights of the parade was hearing students reflect on the books and stories that have shaped their reading journeys.
Our Year 6 students shared treasured memories ranging from stories about a Blue Groper and a very Hungry Caterpillar, through to classic fairy tales such as Cinderella. Students spoke about poems that inspired them, books that helped them grow in confidence and understanding, and even special gifts of Bibles that nurtured faith and reflection. A common theme throughout many of these memories was the important role parents play in fostering a love of reading and sharing stories together.
Our Year 5 students showcased an incredible variety of characters and costumes. From Coco Chanel to Little Red Riding Hood, students demonstrated just how broad and diverse the world of literature can be. Many students also chose books that reflected their family heritage and cultural backgrounds, highlighting the way stories help us connect with our identities and histories.
Students in Years 3 and 4 brought a wonderful blend of classic and contemporary literature to the parade. Familiar favourites such as Pinocchio stood proudly alongside newer chapter books that are capturing students’ imaginations.
Across Years 1 to 4, students participated in character interviews, answering questions as if they were the characters themselves. Their thoughtful responses demonstrated not only enthusiasm, but also a deep understanding of the books they have been reading.
In Kindergarten, the breadth of reading on display was truly delightful. From adventures beneath the sea to journeys through frozen worlds, and even a visit from the ever-popular Hungry Caterpillar, our youngest students reminded us that reading can transport us anywhere.
One of the joys of reading is that every book has its own voice. Some stories make us laugh, some encourage us to think deeply, and others inspire us to be brave, kind and determined. Together they create a vibrant symphony of stories that helps us learn more about ourselves, others and the world around us.
Adding to the celebration was a magnificent whole Junior School choir performance of “When You Open a Book,” prepared by Mrs Sherer. The song’s lyrics paid tribute to many classic stories and beloved literary characters, perfectly capturing the magic and wonder that books bring into our lives.
Book Week is a special opportunity to celebrate authors, illustrators and readers. It reminds us that stories are all around us and that a great book can remain with us long after the final page has been turned. The creativity displayed by our students and staff through their costumes brought these stories vividly to life and highlighted the enthusiasm for reading that exists throughout our school.

Your support helped make our 2026 Book Week Parade a truly outstanding celebration of reading and a fitting tribute to our own Symphony of Stories.
