Cabaret Creativity Shines

Term 4 has been an exciting and highly creative period for both Musical Theatre cohorts. This term, we explored the art of writing and performing cabaret, culminating in a showcase at the Fraser Centre.

Students had the incredible opportunity to learn from Tom Sharah, winner of Australia’s national cabaret competition, who shared his expertise on crafting, writing, and delivering a compelling cabaret performance. His insights inspired students to draw from their own personal experiences, creating authentic patter and connecting songs within a cohesive narrative arc.

The results were nothing short of spectacular—poignant, deeply moving, and professionally polished. Each student now has a cabaret piece they could confidently perform at any time in the future. Working collaboratively with myself as director, Romy Bartz on story development, and Lindsey Kaul on vocal technique, students gained a profound understanding of the cabaret form and the courage required to stand alone on stage with just a piano and their story.

I was truly impressed by the students’ diligence, intelligence, and creativity. Their vulnerability, enthusiasm, and remarkable talent made this term an unforgettable experience.
