Our young people are at the heart of everything that we do at The McDonald College. We promote an active, student-centred approach to learning which offers many opportunities for our students to be engaged and succeed both at school and beyond. A key aspect of our philosophy of education is that by creating a focused and engaging environment, we promote the kind of dynamic and interactive learning conditions that are essential for the development of young minds.

Through a combination of individualised attention and quality teacher/student interaction, our Junior School students are able to explore and blossom. In addition to this positive and interactive learning environment, we provide students with a broad and diverse curriculum unique to the College. With this approach we keep students engaged in their learning, as the overall process is varied and dynamic. These aspects serve to foster a great deal of interaction and mentoring among students, and one which is underpinned by our creative learning strategies.

Our current Year 3-6 Junior School model allows students to train in Performing Arts for 1.5 hours a day, five days a week. Outside of Performing Arts time, students are engaged in their normal academic learning including English, Mathematics, Science & Technology, Human Society & Environment, Creative Arts and PDHPE. Through their experience in the Junior School, students will have a more refined understanding of Performing Arts, enabling them to transition into Secondary School with a single stream focus.

Our new Infants School students (K-2) will engage in 45 minutes, four times per week, in our specifically developed performance program introducing them to our Performing Arts streams.  Their program will include Dance (jazz/ballet combination), Music, Acting and Gym/Acrobatics.

The school day begins at 8.25 am and finishes at 3.25 pm (initially 3.00 pm for Kindergarten).
