If your child has a strong interest in performing arts or performance sports and you'd like to hear about our world-class faculty and how we integrate performing arts / performance sports into the school day, then you should attend our Open Day.

What happens at an Open Day at The McDonald College?

Four things you can expect when you come to our Open Day that you wouldn't see in other schools: 1. Our morning refreshments are accompanied by live music (played by students). 2. Our campus tours are student-led, so you get to talk to students about their experience of the school. 3. You may catch some of our Performing Arts classes in the act. 4. You will experience a live show performed by our students - acting, classical ballet, contemporary dance, music and musical theatre.

What is an Open Morning?

Open Mornings are held five times a year. They are scaled-back versions of our Open Days catering to those who may be time-poor or unable to attend our Open Days. Open Mornings do not include live performances.

Does my child need to audition for entry into The McDonald College?

If your child is entering Years K – 4 or applying for the Technical Production stream, Elite Tennis, or Rhythmic Gymnastics, there is no need for an Audition. Students in Years 5 – 12 are required to Audition.

Does McDonald College have on-site parking?

Yes, enter via George Street. Our staff will be there during an Open Day to guide you.

When is the next McDonald College Open Day?

Open Days at The McDonald College are held twice a year. These are exciting events where you get to see live performances and spend more time on campus and chat to our students and staff. Open Mornings are held five times a year. These are scaled back events. Join us for an Open Day to explore how our unique approach to education has nurtured talents like Emma Watkins, Nikki Webster, Meg Mac, Felicity Ward, Tim Draxl, Ayesha Madon, Lachlan Monaghan and many others. Experience firsthand the excellence in Performing Arts education that sets us apart.

Who should attend an Open Day?

Families of students who

are ready to start Kindergarten through to Year 12
have a strong interest in performing arts or performance sports disciplines
have questions about our rigorous academic curriculum; and
want to hear about our world-class faculty and how we integrate performing arts / performance sports into the school day.

What happens during an Open Day?

We divide our guests into groups according to primary or secondary school
You will hear from our Principal and current students
You will enjoy live in-studio performances by our students
Student ambassadors will lead tours of the campus
For those interested in elite tennis, our partners will show you the facilities in Meadowbank
Tours of the Boarding House are arranged as required

Auditions

Auditions are held four times a year and are required for entry into Years 5 – 12 in the following Streams:

As part of the audition process, students in Years 5 – 12 are also required to undertake an academic test to assess written and numerical competency.

Families interested in K – Year 2 are naturally welcome to join us on an Open Day however we also encourage you to meet the Director of the Junior School and arrange a tailored tour.
