Voyager Tennis Academy in Italy

Over the past 18 months our Elite Tennis stream has been training to gain entry into the ISF World Schools Championships. The competition was held in the picturesque countryside of Castel Di Sangro in Italy. By placing first in Australia, The McDonald College was invited to represent our country in the boys division.

The tour offered sight seeing Castel Di Sangro, which was led by the local high school. The town only had a population of approximately 6000 people. The local high school students took us around the town and showed us the best gelato and pizza places! Alongside having great food, the views from the top of the town were stunning. As a team we saw the sunset over the town, making it a highlight of our overall experience.

The competition lasted six full days including early mornings and late afternoons. The countries that we competed against included China Taipei, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Italy and Germany. Overall, we placed 5th in the world; a great effort. It was great to see our students making new friends with other people even if they were in a competitive environment. One of the highlights of the competition was the psyche up before the matches – it was a time when everyone stopped to watch. Following this, the emotional support the players provided each other – on and off the court – was a delightful sign of maturity.

After the competition, we went to Rome to see the sights and relax. Steeped in historical significance, Rome offered valuable insight into their culture. We saw the Colosseum, The Vatican, the Roman Forum, Mt. Vesuvius, Sistine Chapel, Trevi fountain, The Spanish steps and The Pantheon.

Overall, it was great experience for all involved. We are very proud of how well the College performed under the guidance and tuition of Voyager Tennis Academy. At this juncture, I must acknowledge Luke Bourgeois and his team at Voyager for the effort and time they have spent with our students to provide them with such an amazing experience.
