Coppélia: Our Ballet Stream’s Biggest Production of the Year

Late in July, our Classical Ballet Stream took to the stage to present their biggest production of the year: Coppélia — a light-hearted and endearing ballet that enchanted audiences and showcased the extraordinary talent and dedication of our students.

From the moment the curtain rose on Opening Night, it was clear that this performance was something special. Under the direction of Jane Kesby, and with the support of Rae Edds-Gibson, the students delivered a cohesive and charming performance as a corps de ballet, each dancer contributing to a beautifully woven narrative. It was a joy to witness the individual journeys of each child unfold on stage.

Coco and Anneke brought Swanhilda to life with a cheeky and vivacious portrayal, captivating the audience with her energy and charm. Hamish, as Dr Coppelius, was ever the enigmatic figure—his performance full of intrigue and warmth, drawing us into the whimsical world of the ballet.

The production was a testament to the countless hours of rehearsal and the unwavering commitment of everyone involved. Bravo to Jane Kesby for her vision and leadership, and heartfelt thanks to the entire production team whose behind-the-scenes work made the magic possible:

  • Peter Kraft – Producer
  • Kerryn Kirk – Costumes (each one a work of art)
  • Peter Slattery – Sets and Props (or “Decorations,” as one Year 1 student sweetly put it)
  • Peter Eirth – Technical Manager
  • Riley Gibson – Lighting

Coppélia was more than a performance—it was a celebration of community, creativity, and the transformative power of dance. Congratulations to all involved for a truly memorable production!
