Books, Authors & Inspiration

This year, all the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students attended the Sydney Writers’ Festival at Parramatta Riverside Theatre. It was such a fun and inspiring experience! The authors were really interesting and taught us a lot about how they develop ideas and write their books.

The host was Joel McKerrow, who is also a poet. He performed some of his spoken-word poetry, which made us laugh and think deeply at the same time. We also met some amazing authors like Terri Libenson, who writes the Emmie & Friends graphic novel series, and Katrina Nannestad, who wrote We Are Wolves and Waiting for the Storks, both historical fiction. Jared Thomas shared stories about his culture and books like My Spare Heart, and Jacqueline Harvey talked about her popular Alice-MirandaKensy and Max, and Willa and Woof series.

Some books were full of humour and cartoons, while others helped us learn about history and different cultures. Hearing the authors read parts of their books and answer our questions was great. The whole day made us feel excited to read more and even try writing our own stories.
