The Sleeping Beauty

This year’s Premier State Ballet production is a reinvention of the age-old fairy tale, The Sleeping Beauty. The historical timeline spans from 1904 to 2020, beginning at the Royal Performance. The famous fairy characters are ballerinas performing for the Queen Mother and her newborn baby Aurora. The dark fairy Carabosse is prevented from performing and gets revenge with a deathly curse on Aurora.

The audience is then transported to the 1920s for Aurora’s sixteenth birthday, when her fatal curse is weakened by the Lilac Fairy, plunging her and the Kingdom into a one-hundred-year sleep. The spell is finally broken in the year 2020 with a kiss from Prince Desire. The Sleeping Beauty is a wondrous fairy tale which spans more than a century, taking audiences on an enchanted journey of hope, wonderment and love.

Directed by Joshua Consandine, who is the former Principal Artist of The Australian Ballet. Presented by Premier State Ballet. Proudly sponsored by The McDonald Foundation and Bloch. On sale Monday 17 June at 9am.
