Audition on Campus – Requirements

ACADEMIC TEST
Test on campus to assess literacy and numeracy (45 mins)
 ACTING (45 mins – 1 hour)
Wear comfortable clothing
You will participate in an acting workshop
Please prepare a monologue
CLASSICAL BALLET (45 mins – 1 hour)
Years 3 – 6
A student entering the Primary Classical Ballet Stream is recommended to have completed a minimum of 1-year of Classical Ballet training.

Years 7 – 9
A student entering the Junior Classical Ballet Stream in Year 7 is recommended to be studying at the RAD Intermediate Foundation level or equivalent. Female students should be in the process of beginning pointe work under the supervision and guidance of a dance physiotherapist.

Years 10 – 12
A student entering the Senior Classical Ballet Stream in Year 10 is recommended to have completed their RAD Intermediate level or equivalent with a secure foundation for the more advanced levels of training.
At the audition
1. Wear classical ballet attire.
2. You will participate in an Open Classical Ballet class.
3. During the 45-minute to 1-hour class, the students will be assessed on their technical proficiency in an Open Class that will involve barre, centre adage, pirouettes, and allegro.
4. In addition, posture, line of the legs and feet, carriage of the arms and upper back, weight placement, use of turnout, and musicality will also be assessed.
DANCE (45 mins – 1 hour)
Wear appropriate dance attire. Bring jazz shoes and tap shoes if applicable.
You will participate in a dance class. The class will include a brief warm-up, jazz and tap combinations.
SENIOR CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Wear appropriate dance attire and shoes.
You will participate in a dance class. The class will include a brief warm-up.
MUSIC
Years 3 – 6
There are no prerequisite standards for this age group.

Years 7 – 9
Instrumentalists and vocalists need to display knowledge and competence in their chosen instrument to an equivalent of the AMEB Practical Preliminary standard or higher.

Years 10 – 12
AMEB Grade 1 Theory/Musicianship or equivalent standard/understanding. Instrumentalists and vocalists need to display knowledge and competence in their chosen instrument to an equivalent of AMEB Grade 2 practical standard or higher.
At the audition
1. Wear smart casual attire or your school uniform.
2. 7-minute time slots will be allocated.
3. You are required to perform one piece of your choosing on your primary instrument or voice.
4. Backing tracks must be sent to registrar@mcdonald.nsw.edu.au in mp3/mp4/wave file format no later than 3 days before the audition.
5. Provide the panel with a list of previous performance experience.
6. At the discretion of the panel, you may be asked to demonstrate your technical proficiency through scales/arpeggios or simple vocal exercises for singers.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Wear smart casual attire or your school uniform.
Bring your backing tracks on a USB or smart device.
7 min time slots will be allocated.
The Musical Theatre audition will be in the format of a vocal audition.
You should prepare two contrasting pieces but may only be asked to perform one.
