Masterclass in Screen Acting

The McDonald College Acting Department is thrilled to present a Masterclass in Screen Acting with Romy Bartz in January 2021. Students will learn to rehearse and shoot scripted scenes from television and film in addition to screen acting, audition, self-taping and screen presenting techniques and short film story-building. This is a three-day workshop for school students of all ages.

This masterclass will include exploration of:

  • Character dynamics
  • Holding tension on-screen
  • Mastering high stake scenarios
  • Learning to make memorable and unique character choices
  • Finding authenticity in performance

Romy graduated from NIDA (Acting) in 2002 with a BA of Dramatic Art. Television credits include School Sux for SBS, White Collar Blue, Love My Way, The Surgeon for Southern Star, The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show, and most recently, Reef Break. Romy has starred in ten short films including Modern Educayshun with Neel Kolthatker, Plastic, winner of VES Award L.A and nominated for an AFI, and Unified with Guy Edmonds & Josh Logue Productions, and most recently, Thallium Enthusiasts for AFTRS. She has also starred in many TV commercials and worked as an on screen presenter for TCI The Cutting Edge Group. Romy teaches and directs drama for NIDA Open program, The McDonald College and SCEGGs.

Last year Romy played Agatha in Siren Theatre Company’s production of The Moors, The Duchess in Mercury Fur at KXT Bakehouse, Chantel in Hillbilly Thriller for Legs on the Wall and Hannah in Slaughterhouse for 25A Belvoir St Theatre. In 2020, Romy has worked privately with students preparing for auditions and filming self-tapes. Several of her students have subsequently secured roles in professional productions such as School of Rock, Odd Squad, Back to the Rafters, Fun Home for STC and Brent Street (agency representation).
