Lachlan Monaghan is a First Artist of Birmingham Royal Ballet. He was born in Sydney, Australia where he trained at The McDonald College and then at The Royal Ballet School in London. As a student he danced with The Royal Ballet in Romeo and Juliet, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Prince of the Pogodas. At the Royal Ballet School his repertory included: Black Knight in Checkmate, Paquita pas de trois, Parrish Maynard’s Fractals, Jirí Kylían’s Un ballo and John Neumeier’s Spring and Fall.
He won the 2009 McDonald’s Ballet Scholarship in Sydney and a bronze medal at the 2010 Adeline Genée Awards. He joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2012 and was promoted to First Artist in 2016.
His repertory at BRB includes Coppelia (Franz), Romeo and Juliet (Mercutio), Slaughter on Tenth Avenue (Hoofer), Elite Syncopations (Friday Night and Hot House Rag), Les Rendezvous (pas de trois), The Sleeping Beauty (pas de quatre), Swan Lake (Neapolitan Dance and Waltz) and The Nutcracker (Dancing Partner, Jack-in-the-Box, Chinese Dance, Consorts, Russian Dance). It also includes many of David Bintley’s ballets including Shakespeare Suite (Hamlet and Petruchio),The Prince of the Pagodas (King of the West), Sylvia (Magog), Take Five. Lachlan created roles in Bintley’s The King Dances and the role of Neptune in The Tempest. He has also created roles in Jessica Lang’s Wink and Ruth Brill’s Arcadia.
