Julian Shaw is a writer, director and actor best known for producing and acting in the marriage equality campaign It’s Time for GetUp!, which won the AdNews Viral Video of the Year Award and has been viewed over 15,000,000 times on YouTube and shared by the likes of Madonna and Stephen Fry.
Julian’s feature documentary Cup of Dreams debuted on NBCUniversal Sports in 2011 and broke ratings records on SuperSport in Africa. His 2007 directorial debut, Darling! The Pieter-Dirk Uys Story, won the IF Independent Spirit Award and Runner Up in the Panorama Audience Awards at the Berlin International Film Festival, as voted by 20,000 audience members. Darling! was released theatrically in South Africa through Nu Metro Cinemas.
Julian is a published novelist (Modern Odysseus, Official Selection – Byron Bay International Writers Festival) and the director of multiple fiction and non-fiction short films that have screened at Cannes in Cinema Des Antipodes, the St Tropez Film Festival, FLICKERFEST and Melbourne International Film Festival. For his short drama Clearing the Air, Julian won 2009 Best Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year from the Byron Bay International Film Festival.
Since graduating from the Australian Film Television Radio School in 2012 with a Master of Screen Arts in Directing, Julian has directed advertising campaigns for clients such as WWF, Earth Hour, the Wallabies, Sum of Us, GetUp! and Goodman Fielder.
Julian holds a Master of Film and Digital Image degree from Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma in Directing from AFTRS. He won Young Australian Film Critic of the Year in 2001 from the AFI (now AACTA) and was a Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year Finalist in 2000.
