Former MasterChef contestant Callan Smith

Callan Smith studied acting and musical theatre at The McDonald College but was also a budding chef. He applied to Network Ten’s MasterChef Australia while he was undertaking the HSC. While most of his school mates were preparing their university applications, Callan was preparing for his reality TV debut.

The former school captain was one of the top-10 finalists of the 2017 season, wowing judges with his quirky and adventurous dishes. He was also one of the youngest contestants in the show’s history. Although he didn’t make it to the final, Callan grew an Australian-wide following from his experience on the show. He opened a candy-bar-themed pop-up store at Bondi Beach following the show.

When interviewed during the show’s season, Callan said his dream would be to open a restaurant that combined his love of theatre with his love of cooking.
