Students study many styles to help develop their skills in a variety of dance forms:  Contemporary, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop. The Dance Department employs ex professional and working professional dancers/ teachers who have a wealth of experience and reputation in the entertainment industry. Their combined expertise and knowledge aims to develop intelligent, knowledgeable, skilled and artistic performers who are versatile in many dance genres. The dance students work on technique, look at different dance styles and choreographers and create their own works in class. Dance may be taken as a 2 Unit subject for the Higher School Certificate. This study includes performance, composition and dance appreciation.

Students in the College may also audition for performance show groups called “Dance Dynamix”. These groups rehearse after school hours and perform at many functions during the year. The Dance Dynamix groups offered are Contemporary, Jazz and Tap in Primary,  Junior and Senior levels. Dance Dynamix groups usually perform at the McDonald College Open Days, Grandparents’ Day, Graduation Ball and at the College Dinner in addition to various corporate events and Eisteddfods.

Performance Opportunities

The Dance Stream develops original performance pieces, occasionally in conjunction with other performance streams in the College. Evening excursions to professional performances such as the Sydney Dance Company and Bangarra Dance Company are offered to senior students from time to time.

Each year, the Dance Stream performs at the Parade Theatre NIDA (or a similar venue). The students perform with energy, strong technique, enthusiasm and commitment. This performance is a highlight on the College Calendar and leaves the audience inspired and invigorated.
